Newly appointed Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten made his first working visit to Kyiv

The newly appointed Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Rob Jetten, made his first working visit to Kyiv shortly after taking office — an early signal that Ukraine remains a priority for the Dutch government.

Jetten, who became prime minister on 23 February 2026, previously served as the Netherlands’ Minister for Climate and Energy Policy and is widely known for his strong focus on climate and sustainability.

During the visit, the Prime Minister met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss continued military and financial support for Ukraine, including cooperation on defence production and unmanned technologies.

Alongside meetings with Ukrainian officials and a visit to sites damaged by Russian attacks, Jetten also took time to meet representatives of Dutch organisations working in Ukraine. Among them was Robert Serry, Chairman of the OpenDoorUkraine.nl Foundation, who presented the Build Back Bio initiative.

Given Jetten’s strong interest in climate policy and sustainable innovation, the discussion focused on the potential of circular and bio-based construction in Ukraine’s recovery. The Prime Minister expressed strong interest in the project and wished the team success in advancing this approach as part of Ukraine’s rebuilding efforts.

The OpenDoorUkraine team appreciates the continued support of the Dutch government and its strong commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility — values that are especially important as Ukraine rebuilds.

The Build Back Bio initiative is implemented by the OpenDoorUkraine Foundation with financial support from the Ukraine Partnership Facility (UPF) of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
