Shevchenkiv (Mikolayiv Region) Rosinka School: Restoration of the roof

Restoration of the roof of a school.

The Rosinka School project in Shevchenkiv addresses the urgent need for roof renovation at a vital educational institution in the Mikolayiv region. Known for its early childhood education services, the school was once a robust and thriving learning center within the community. It targeted two different age groups and provided valuable preschool education services to the local population.

However, the beginning of the large-scale invasion by the Russian Federation brought devastation and destruction to the region. Chevchenkiv, the settlement where the institution is located, was on the front line and subject to constant shelling and attacks. The school building suffered significant damage, with approximately 60% of the infrastructure affected. This damage included the roof, windows, doors and walls, which bore the scars of projectile fragments. In 2022, the local budget allocated funds for emergency repairs to the institution’s building. Although building materials were purchased, these resources proved insufficient to fully restore the facility’s functionality.

Status:

Completed

Financial information:

  • ODU contribution: EURO 49,500 (Source: Oxfam)
  • Shevchenkiv Hromada and other donors: 50,000-75,000 euros (mainly building materials and interior renovation)

Target group and results:

The ongoing roof repair project at Rosinka School plays a crucial role in preventing further capital destruction and facilitating the return of educational services to the community. Up to 120 schoolchildren will have the opportunity to return to their classrooms once the institution is fully restored. Repairing the school is not just about the infrastructure, but also about rekindling hope and normalcy in the lives of the children the school serves. As the front lines withdraw in this area, internally displaced persons and refugees are gradually returning to Chevchenkiv, including many families with children. The rehabilitation of the preschool is a top priority as it serves as a beacon to encourage their return to the community. The Rosinka Kindergarten is part of a larger Lycee school complex, which is also being repaired with support from other donors.
