OpenDoorUkraine.nl, PROFBUD, and Rawblox at the 1st EUkraine Progressive Summit

The OpenDoorUkraine team together with our partners PROFBUD and Rawblox, joined the powerful and informative 1st EUkraine Progressive Summit, which lasted two days and brought together leading experts, government representatives, international partners, businesses and civil society.

During the summit, participants focused on discussing key areas that shape Ukraine’s path to sustainable development — security, socially oriented integration into the EU, democracy and the rule of law, as well as fair recovery and labour rights.

Of particular importance to us was the panel discussion on “Fair recovery and labour rights — trade union renewal and protection of employees as the basis for social dialogue”, in which our partner in the Build Back Bio project, Vasyl Andreyev, chairman of the Trade Union of Construction Workers of Ukraine (Profbud), took part.

“The reconstruction will be sustainable: in compliance with international labour standards, with written employment contracts, good working conditions and safety in the workplace. Together with OpenDoorUkraine, we are working to rebuild a village near Chernihiv. We are looking after working conditions and helping people to learn construction skills so that they can rebuild their homes or find work in our sector,” says Vasyl Andreyev.

The discussion raised relevant issues — the role of trade unions in the post-war recovery process, the protection of workers, decent working conditions and the development of social dialogue at the European level.

As part of the Build Back Bio project, the OpenDoorUkraine Foundation is working with Profbud to ensure compliance with current labour standards and rights, raise employee awareness, and implement approaches that meet the best European standards of social protection and decent work.

We sincerely thank the summit organisers, speakers and all participants for the meaningful discussions and for raising issues that are so important for Ukraine. Such events help to shape a common vision for the recovery, development and integration of our country into the European space

The Build Back Bio project is implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Partnership Fund (UPF) — a program of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) implemented on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
