Start of an important stage in the implementation of the joint project Veteran mental health centre of excellence (VMHCE)

We are proud to announce the start of an important stage in the implementation of the joint project of OpenDoorUkraine.nl, FGIP and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv to create space for the Veteran mental health centre of excellence (VMHCE), funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

This Centre will be located at the Institute of Psychiatry of the Kyiv National University, which will allow for the combination of advanced research, practical experience and international approaches to mental health.

To ensure the effective implementation of the project, a roundtable discussion was held with representatives of all stakeholders. The discussion was attended by representatives of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the Institute of Psychiatry of the National University of Kyiv, FGIP, OpenDoorUkraine.nl, as well as a team of engineers and designers who will work on adapting the space to the needs of veterans.

A thorough analysis of the work of existing mental health centres, including their models of operation, key advantages and challenges they faced, was carried out. International experience was also studied, which allowed us to integrate the most effective global practices of supporting veterans into the concept of the future Centre.

The discussion covered both the general concept of space arrangement and its functionality, as well as technical aspects, including safety, engineering solutions and compliance with modern standards of psychiatric practice. Particular attention was paid to elements that will affect the psychological comfort of visitors, as the main goal is to create a space that will facilitate effective recovery and rehabilitation.

The engineering team of OpenDoorUkraine.nl has already started a detailed technical inspection of the premises. This will allow us to assess the current state of the building, identify the necessary repairs and create a safe, comfortable and modern space for specialists to work and veterans to stay.

Our goal is to make the Centre a place where veterans and their families can receive quality psychological assistance, recovery and support. We strive to create a space that will become a model for Ukraine and meet international mental health standards.

We thank all partners and teams for their cooperation and contribution to the implementation of this important project! Together we are creating opportunities for recovery, support and new perspectives!
