The OpenDoorUkraine.nl team, in cooperation with the Okhtyrka Youth Centre, presented a housing restoration programme to the Okhtyrka community

The OpenDoorUkraine.nl team is constantly searching for communities that have been affected by the war and need support in rebuilding. We are open to cooperation with partners who share our values, vision of sustainable development, and desire to help people return to a dignified and safe life.

This time, such a partnership took place with OYC | Okhtyrka Youth Centre, with whom we organised a presentation of the programme for residents of the Okhtyrka community. Sumy region is constantly under fire, suffering destruction and losses, so the need to rebuild homes for local residents and construct new homes for internally displaced persons is particularly acute and urgent.

On 20 January, in the Sumy region, in the Okhtyrka community, a presentation was held on the Build Back Bio housing restoration project — an initiative to create affordable and environmentally friendly housing for internally displaced persons and families who have lost their homes due to the war.

During the event, we presented the idea of building 450 bio-houses using materials based on compressed straw and hempcrete. Such houses are energy-efficient, warm, safe, environmentally friendly, and more affordable than traditional building materials such as brick or foamcrete.

We talked to community residents, answered questions, heard people’s real needs, and saw great interest in energy-efficient and affordable solutions for housing restoration. We sincerely thank everyone who joined the meeting.

Special thanks to OYC | Okhtyrka Youth Centre  for their help in organising the event, their support and partnership.

The Build Back Bio project is implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Partnership Fund (UPF) — a programme of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) implemented on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
