The OpenDoorUkraine.nl team had the privilege of attending the Ukrainian Psychiatric Association International Conference in Kyiv, organized by our friends and partners at FGIP together with the Psychiatry Clinic of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
While construction of the Veteran Mental Health Centre of Excellence (VMHCE) continues with our joint efforts, the professional work behind it is already moving forward at full speed. The conference brought together leading Ukrainian and international specialists to discuss resilience after trauma, evidence-based mental health care for veterans, and the unique psychological realities Ukraine faces today.
We also participated in art and music therapy sessions — approaches that will become an integral part of VMHCE operations.
The strongest takeaway from Kyiv was clear: Ukraine’s veterans are in exceptionally capable, professional hands. The dedication of FGIP, university clinicians, and the entire VMHCE team confirms that this centre will become a vital national asset.
We are grateful for partners who combine expertise, compassion, and commitment. Working alongside people like this gives us confidence that Ukraine will recover as a resilient and prosperous country.
