The OpenDoorUkraine.nl team held a productive meeting with the Rector of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Volodymyr Bugrov and the university team, namely Hanna Tolstanova (Vice-Rector for Research), Larysa Sokhatiuk (Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work) and Iryna Pinchuk (Director of the Institute of Psychiatry). The discussion focused on key aspects of the project to create a Veteran Mental Health Center of Excellence (VMHCE), which will be run jointly by Federation Global Initiative on Psychiatry (FGIP) and the clinic of psychiatry of KNU. This project was sponsored by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Particular attention was paid to the arrangement of the Centre’s space, which will become a place to provide psychological, social and educational support. The University expressed its readiness to contribute to the project, in particular by providing expert assistance and sharing its experience in organising similar initiatives.
The meeting participants also stressed the importance of the Centre’s programme, which will be aimed at integrating veterans into society, their professional development and social rehabilitation. Thanks to the coordinated work and support of the university, this project will be an important step in supporting Ukraine’s defenders and their families.
