OpenDoorUkraine.NL, together with another humanitarian organization from the Netherlands “Stichting Hulpacties, are providing emergency funding of 40,000 Euros to support the “I am Kherson” programme, which helps vulnerable groups in Kherson region who are in extremely difficult conditions due to daily attacks.
Previously, the “I аm Kherson” programme was funded by USAID, but due to changes in the Trump administration’s policies and the termination of funding, the organisation is now in a critical situation.
The chairman of OpenDoorUkraine.NL, Robert Serry said: “I am shocked by President Trump’s decision, which has devastating consequences for people in need worldwide and for Ukrainians in war in particular. By providing emergency funding to ”I am Kherson” we hope to fill the gap by enabling them to continue their life saving assistance to thousands of the most vulnerable people in Kherson.”
What will be done with this funding?
- The organisation will purchase hygiene products (diapers, electric sheets), mobility aids (crutches, walkers, toilet chairs, canes) and medical devices (anti-decubitus mattresses).
- “I am Kherson” will also purchase printed materials – information materials for beneficiaries to help them know how to use the equipment they receive.
- Organisation of transport services to deliver goods to those who cannot get to the distribution points on their own due to constant shelling and dangerous conditions. This is especially important for the elderly, people with disabilities and those in difficult life circumstances.
- The funding will cover banking services, mobile phone top-ups, internet, rental of premises and travel expenses necessary for the effective organisation of the programme.
- It will also cover salaries of the social workers who work daily to implement the programme, helping thousands of people in Kherson.
These measures will allow us to continue the vital activities of the “I аm Kherson” programme and provide support to those who need help most in one of the most dangerous cities in Ukraine.
Why is it important?
Kherson region is subject to daily brutal shelling and drone attacks that direcrly target civilians, their homes, hospitals and critical infrastructure. Around 100,000 people have been displaced in the region, and half of them are people with disabilities, the elderly and those who cannot meet their basic needs on their own.
We believe that together we can do more for those who need help the most. Please join our initiative to help thousands of people in Kherson get through these inhumane times.
