The first stage has been completed – demolition of the future Veteran Mental Health Center Of Excellence (VMHCE)!

The first stage of demolition work at the future Veteran Mental Health Center Of Excellence (VMHCE) was recently completed. The work, carried out with the help of volunteers from the “Brave To Rebuild” Charitable Foundation, took place between March and September 2025, with around 55 work parties held every weekend.

During the demolition work:
– 265 volunteers were involved, of whom about 50% were foreigners;
– walls, ceilings and floors were demolished in premises with a total area of 1,182 m²;
– hundreds of tonnes of construction waste were collected and removed, some of which was recycled into environmentally friendly building materials.

We would like to thank every volunteer and the team at the Charitable Foundation “Brave To Rebuild” for their dedication, perseverance and professional approach to the work.

We would also like to thank the volunteers and team of the “Dobrobat” Charitable Foundation, who were also involved in this work. For more details about their participation, see our previous publications.

Thanks to the efforts of the volunteers, a clean and safe space has been prepared for the next stages of reconstruction.

The Veteran Mental Health Center Of Excellence, established in 2024, is set to become a leading educational and training centre in Ukraine. This is a joint initiative of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and international partners — the Federation for Global Initiative in Psychiatry (FGIP) and the Royal Centre for Military Health Research (KCMHR) at King’s College London. The project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands with the support of the Geneva Initiative on Psychiatry and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine.
