Last week, the OpenDoorUkraine.nl team, led by chairman Robert Serry, together with Ms Erika Schouten – The Netherlands’ Special Envoy for Reconstruction of Ukraine, and the team from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Kyiv, visited one of the construction projects of our partner Hempire UA.
This hemp building is an example of innovative green construction in Ukraine. The walls are made entirely of a hemp-based biocomposite, with high energy efficiency, structural strength and a minimal carbon footprint – and at a significantly reduced cost in comparison to traditional building methods.
This visit served as a demonstration of the technology developed as part of the Build Back Bio programme, which we are implementing in partnership with Rawblox, Hempire UA and with the support of the Dutch government through the Ukrainian Partnership Programme (UPF). The programme aims to rebuild Ukraine through innovative green solutions and sustainable construction technologies.
UPF is a programme from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency commissioned by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. UPF supports damage repair and reconstruction projects for the public and private sectors. UPF aims to help the recovery and sustainable reconstruction activities of the Ukrainian economy and society in the water, healthcare, circular reconstruction, sustainable energy and agricultural sectors.
We are convinced that Ukraine’s recovery must be not only rapid but also high-quality, with a focus on environmental friendliness, sustainability and innovation.
