The OpenDoorUkraine.nl team, together with our partners, is constantly looking for new, environmentally friendly and affordable building materials — because Ukraine’s future recovery must be not only rapid but also sustainable.

Recently, our partner Daan Hartge, founder of Rawblox, visited the production facility of KLIU SOLUTIONS SL., a company that develops innovative eco-friendly materials based on microfibres, biocomposites and cork wood. Cork is of particular interest to us due to its natural thermal and sound insulation properties, durability and complete biodegradability — making it a promising material for the Ukrainian construction industry.

During his visit, Daan had the opportunity not only to see the entire production cycle, but also to personally test the application of coatings in the company’s laboratory. This is invaluable practical experience that brings us closer to implementing the best technologies in the reconstruction process.

We are constantly looking for effective, practical and environmentally friendly solutions that will make the reconstruction of Ukraine more accessible, sustainable and climate-responsible.

One of the key areas of our work is the Build Back Bio initiative, which we are implementing together with Rawblox and Hempire UA as part of the Ukrainian Partnership Fund (UPF). The programme involves the construction of 450 bio-houses in rural communities affected by the war, using hybrid technologies based on straw and hemp — local, accessible and climate-resilient resources.

This project is funded by the Ukrainian Partnership Fund (UPF), a programme of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency implemented on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken). The UPF supports projects to repair damage and rebuild in the public and private sectors, helping to restore and sustainably develop Ukraine’s economy and society in the areas of water supply, healthcare, circular construction, sustainable energy, and agriculture.

We are convinced that the combination of local resources, innovative technologies and social responsibility can transform the reconstruction process. Each new partner, material or technology is another step towards an energy-efficient, dignified and green Ukraine.
